RV Buyers Looking at Fifth Wheels for Full Time Use
"Fifth Wheels" and "Fifth Wheel Trailers" are all terms that refer to a type of travel trailer. The term refers to a style of trailer with a raised front end which hitches to a truck using a special hitching method. The hitch is mounted in a truck bed almost directly over the truck's rear axle. This adds a great deal of stability when towing a fifth wheel.
Fifth wheels range in length from about 19 feet to over 40 feet long with all the conveniences of a small home when they are fully equipped for living. These fifth wheel trailers are almost always built with a cut out section in front to allow the king pin to extend over the truck bed to reach the hitch. This extended section is almost always used for the main bedroom although a few models have placed a living room area there.
Larger fifth wheel models include things like; computer desk, fire place and nice size kitchen. The kitchen will have a refrigerator-freezer combo, a range with oven and a microwave to handle any meal preparation. Upscale units feature deluxe counter tops like granite with luxury touches to rival the finest kitchens found in most homes.
Bathrooms can also feature full size showers with space to spare. When considering a fifth wheel for full-time use be sure there is a walk in shower. The main bedroom will have a queen or king size bed with storage underneath.
Larger models will have a dresser and larger closet to accommodate your travel needs. Heating is accomplished with a gas forced air furnace ducted throughout the living area. A roof mounted air conditioner keeps the interior cool during hot summer nights.
One common feature of fifth wheels is the ample storage both inside and underneath the living area. In the last few years fifth wheel manufacturers have included a "basement" storage area in the forward section of the unit. This allows for storage of all the items like lawn furniture and other gear that make living on the road more comfortable. Modern fifth wheel trailers offer the ultimate in travel trailer living. They have maximum living space, easy towing, and reasonable prices for those considering full-time use. .
